Hello, my name is Billy Li and today I will share my testimony with you. I am very thankful and happy that I was raised in a Christian family, and grew up knowing God. I know many friends whose parents aren’t Christians, so they can’t go to church or anything. This just makes me realize how lucky I am. Ever since I first knew and started to follow and believe in Him, my life was changed.
God was introduced to me when I was in 1st grade. One night, after Awana, my parents asked me if I believed in Jesus. I said yes, and that is when I first started believing. As a first grader, my faith wasn’t very strong because it was the first night that a believed, but as I grew older, my faith progressed.
I remember some times in my life that I kind of questioned if God really existed. I remember specifically one time in my life when I was a 2nd grader and 7 years old, I asked God to help me practice more violin so then I could do better in a competition. It may have been because I was trying to combine being able to do well with proving to myself that God is real. Later on, I knew I was practicing more and eventually I did well in the competition, and I haven’t doubted him since. It may have just been a coincidence, but to me, it was an event that enhanced my relationship with God.
This year, I also tried to do something called Lent. It is where you give up something like Jesus did while he was walking without food for 40 days. You give up things that you do regularly, and the whole point is to try not to fall into the temptation, like how Jesus didn’t fall into the temptation of Satan. I gave up Facebook and computer games, and I fasted a couple of times. I can tell you that it is really hard to give things up that you use often, and I actually couldn’t keep myself from falling into temptation. This just shows how Jesus is perfect and how I’m not.
I am very grateful to be able to proclaim my faith to the world today, and I am able to publicly become one of Jesus’ followers. I hope that I am able to continue growing in my faith, and become a better person in Jesus Christ our Lord.
